Vasilis Michaelides is considered the national poet of Cyprus. He wrote many poems in the Cypriot dialect, with his most famous being "The 9th of July 1821," which honours Cypriot heroes. The term "Pérkallos" is associated with Michaelides through a poem by Kostas Vasiliou titled "O Pérkallos," which refers to Michaelides by this nickname.
